School Preview Time is going on now through January 22. This exciting time has all elementary, middle and high schools in the district hosting three open houses, school tours, or other activities to welcome prospective families. This is a good time for families to see the school in action, ask important questions, and consider which schools are right for your family. Each school has unique times for these activities, so it’s important to check the schedule and call the school to confirm. If you missed the Family Information Sessions, or are looking for another source for your BPS questions, Y/BPS Workshops are taking place throughout the autumn and winter. Like Family Information Sessions, these are neighborhood meetings led by a Y/BPS Project Manager aimed at helping you answer your questions about registration, the lottery, school assignments, the waiting lists, and educational choices in the future. Each Y/BPS Project Manager focuses on a specific neighborhood or neighborhoods, which allows them to provide information specific to your community schools. If you’re not able to attend one of the scheduled workshops, please don’t hesitate to contact us! We’re happy to hold a workshop for your existing organization, your neighborhood group of parents, or a small group of friends. E-mail us at info@ybps.org to set up a workshop.
First round of school registration begins January 4, 2010 for all children entering kindergarten (K0, K1 or K2), grade 6 or grade 9. To avoid long lines, BPS is encouraging parents to register at Family Resource Centers according to the parent’s last name:
A-I: January 4-8, 2010
J-Q: January 11-15, 2010
R-Z: January 19-22, 2010
Open to all: January 22-February 5 2010
Remember, it doesn’t matter when during the first round you register, but it does matter that you register by the end of round one on February 5th. Be sure to visit your schools during school preview time and come prepared with a list of at least 5-7 schools to rank at registration
