Charlotte “Dee Spinkston, Executive Director of Urban PRIDE, has been invited by the National Council on Disabilities (NCD) to attend and serve as a facilitator on the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for the National Council on Disability (NCD)’s National Summit on Disability Policy 2010 from July 25 – 28, 2010.
NCD has chosen the theme: Living, Learning & Earning for this year’s historic event. According to the newly confirmed Chairman of NCD, Jonathan Young,“This cross-cutting theme is designed to launch a national dialogue on disability policies and programs in the 21st century. As we gather in Washington, DC, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, NCD wants to begin substantive discussions about the future of disability policies and programs and promote extensive collaboration at all levels of government and among all stakeholders. The main objectives for the Summit are to:
· Identify emerging and cross-cutting opportunities to enhance Living, Learning & Earning for people with disabilities;
· Establish new mechanisms and build upon existing ones to improve coordination and implementation of disability policies, programs, and practices; and
· Energize collaborative networks to guide future development of disability policy.
I am honored to have been asked to participate and look forward to continuing the work of Urban PRIDE in this forum, furthering the goal of equity, access, participation and high quality outcomes for people with disabilities and thier families, particularly those who are unserved/underserved.
